is car necessary for surfing N. Portugal?

I am going to Portugal Sept/Oct and plan to surf N of Lisbon, in Peniche and Porto. Is it necessary to have a car to be able to get around to the different spots, or is it easy to take taxis/buses with a board to spots, or are there accommodations close to a lot of the spots? Thanks

there are lots of accomodations near all of those spots. hotels, camping, houses for rent. If you don´t plan on renting a car, Baleal in Peniche is the place to go. Yes, you can travel by bus between ericeira and peniche if you wan´t to change spots, but it´s an adventure...

I will be arriving in Porto tommorow evening and staying untill the 27th Sept.  Will be traveling alone... so far and would be intrerestead in meeting other surfers/travelers who might want to share the costs of renting a car and experience surfing different spots throughout portugal.  Im 24 years old, male, intermediate surfing. currently studying in cornwall, UK. Plan on doing the trip as cheap as possible therefor mainly staying at campsights. email me fr3shknut@hotmail.com or reply to post. Joe
