Surfing the Lisbon Coast

« on: April 28 2008 12:04:00 »

Hi, myself and 8 friends are planning a weeks surfing and relaxing holiday in early July. Peniche/Baleal has been recommended to us so just wondering what people think of this place?
I have also heard that ericeira is good?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hey Rod,
I'm quite a fan of Peniche/Baleal - you've got lots of options there for different wind conditions as well as some great seafood restaurants. It gets busy at that time of year especially with the camper van crowd but that's going to be an issue everywhere. If you're after nightlife Ericeira has more going on and is certainly more attractive but none of the beaches can handle any wind coming out of the west. If you've got wheels your best bet is to keep an eye on the forecast and be ready to drive between these places and even down to Lisbon if it goes flat or you want to see some sights and hit the city. hard.
