Algarve in August, forget the surf !!!
Only in Sagres area or a bit north in Alentejo coast ( Carrapateira - Vila Nova de Milfontes ) maybe you can get some waves.
Best option to surf - Ericeira or Peniche, a bit north of Lisbon.

Cheers,
Élio

Hi Max!
For sure you should try Peniche, there are enough waves for everyone and nightlife in summer is great.
If you are interessted in prices, accommodations or something just write, about surf camps and accommodations here I know almost everything!

Hi!

If you want to come to portugal to surf, a good place it is Ericeira - considered the MECA of SURF in this country and we are very close (500 meters) to one of the best spots in Europe (Ribeira dìlhas)- and we are placed only 50 meters from other surf spot.

Our Guest house offer you a place to stay, rental of surf boards, wetsuits, bikes, airport transfers, cars and so on.

If you are interested to come in the 1th week of August, please tell us what you need, as we can arrange weekly packages according your needs, surf trips or simply a place to stay. - Nice prices!!!

Hey, its true! The south algarve is pretty loaded with tourists and not much surf in Summer... we landed in Faro but quickly decided to mission it to the west coast.. its so beautiful, not many buildings or development ( its a coastal natural park) and like wise not many crowds in the water.

always we found waves (winter is more consistent than summer, but still). . and ended up near arrifana beach. There are some really good value surf camps around there - i know of one called algarve-adventure. or you can just camp out there are so many spots. Good luck!
