Surfing Algarve Spring 09

« on: January 22 2009 07:01:00 »

I am hoping to have a solo trip to the Algarve in April/ may and was wondering if I will be able to camp near any surfing beaches, where is good to go for a lady on her own, if it is safe to hire a car etc?
any advice is most welcome!

April / May is a good time, I was there last year mid Paril, nice weather and waves.

Check with about the surf camp they offer there, I will be going again with them but in March this year.

Hi you could rent a campervan from a company on the algarve and get around the whole campsite car rental issue.

I spent 2 months in algarve, 6 weeks at one hostel in the corner of portugal called the good feeling hostel. its owned by two surfers and they drive to one of 7 beaches in the area usually twice a day depending on which has the best surf. really safe hostel, great people, and they cook for everyone at night. check it out at hostelworld or just look up good feeling hostel sagres in google.

I went to Algarve last summer car/ caravan rentals are same as rest of Europe. All the big chains there, make sure you are as far west as possible and as early.I went East Algarve in August to sail and one day was head high barrels one was chest to waist high and really clean, the other ten were crap.
