Surfing for beginners near Porto

Hi,

My husband, kids and I are coming to Portugal the first two weeks of July. We fly into Porto, and we'll get a rent car.
We're all beginners at surf so we aren't looking for tubes LOL just some decent waves for us...

Where's the best place? Anything near Porto?

Thanx

RE: Surfing for beginners near Porto

Hi Elizabeth,

There are plenty of places both to the north and the south of Porto but you probably will want to steer clear of the beaches in and near the city because of pollution and crowds. A good friend of mine has just started a mobile surf charter which picks people up and then takes them to the waves best suited for their level, as well as offering equipment hire and lessons. If you're interested send me an email and I'll give you his contact details. Toby.

RE: Surfing for beginners near Porto

Hello Elizabeth.
There is a very nice area about 40km south of oporto you should probably check.. TORREIRA and SÃO JACINTO, two litle tipical vilages, surounded by water and with quite a few miles of desert beaches. There is a small friendly surfschool in Torreira and there are also sailling and kayaking lessons for children in the marina. There is plenty of unexpensive lodging around, some private. Available for further info, regards,
José
