surf near lisboa in august?« on: December 19 2009 08:12:00 »
I'm an italian universitary student and just discovered the beauty of surfing!
I'm spending august in lisboa for an universitary exchange. I can't carry my board with me nor suites. what's the best solution if I want to surf in the weekend or in the afternoon while beeing there? I'm still a beginner..
keep soul surfing!

August is the worst month for surfing but maybe you can get some waves.
Very near from Lisbon you have Costa da Caparica, but in august sucks and Estoril coast forget it.
Best options is praia do Guincho, in Sintra you have Praia Grande, and in Ericeira there's always some waves and a bit more north there are Santa Cruz and Peniche.

Try Ericeira, 40 km from Lisbon and good spots.

I would suggest you take the train or the bus south...its super easy from lisboa. If you take the bus to Lagos, you can then make a quick 45 min journey to Sagres...there you have about 15 beaches within an hour and guaranteed surf. The waves are good there now. Look for Praia do tonel, beliche, zavial, arrifana, carrapateira...all great! Some might be too big but thats a good problem to have.
If you need anymore info let me know I have a good surf shop I can recommend, you can even get lessons. I was just there for 2 weeks! awesome!!!
