Best spot for waves in May

« on: April 28 2010 02:04:00 »

Hi,

I'm going to be in Europe for the whole of May and was planning a surf trip for a couple of weeks with my girlfriend.  Coming from Australia, I've never surfed in Europe before and was thinking Morocco, or Spain/Portugal.  I've always wanted to surf Morocco (especially the Taghazhout area and Safi) but have been reading a lot that May is no good for waves.

Would anywhere else be more likely to have good waves?  If so, where?

Hey, I'm from portugal so i think i can help you, Portugal in summer is not the best place to surf, with some exeptions, ericeira/peniche is a realy kind place with some rustic villages arround and not far from the capital lisbon 40 Km, and good waves in summer it usually be 2 meters, at supertubos maybe you have already heared something about it, one stage of the mundial championship of surf is there so i think it would be a great place to stay but not for long, north spain and france will be great spots to surf, Mediterranean for waves sucks, it realy seems like a lake, portugal has another great spot in

Algarve South of portugal Called Sagres, Tonel is also a very well knowned beach , i think a trip in portugal sounds fun if you weren't a realy pro surfer.
But Try different opinions from Spain or from France But dont forget Mediterranean for surf is not a choice.

Advise locations for May: ericeira Peniche Arrifana Carrapateira Sagres

If you're thinking about doing a surftrip, get in touch with Surf'inn
www.surfinn.travel
Me, my sister and some friends went on a surftrip last year and it was great. They organized everything for the entire week, all along the coast!
Tell them what you need and they'll make it for you! At least it worked quite fine for us!

Yeah you're too late for Morocco. Portugal could be good - we had fun waves last week though it's gone onshore now. You could also try early season France (Hossegor etc) before the summer madness.
