Places to visit and surf in August, with bay

« on: February 12 2012 07:02:00 »

Hi all,

Maybe a challenge but i am trying to find the right spot to go to in Portugal at the end of August. We are a couple and having a 1 year old baby. We would like to take her with us. Maybe another couple is joining us so we can also surf together while someone is watching her.

What is the best place to go to, so we can surf, visit nice beaches to swim en visit nice places to go for dinner ect? I was looking at Lagos, but on this forum I also see Ericeiria, Baleal or Carrapateira? We have some surf experience in Bali. Thanks!

Hi there, Portugal is my european home, definitely. I went to carrapateira, there is good waves but is definitely to many people, surfschools n' lessons, its a very small village. Ericeira is also pretty crowded, awesome reef breaks, the town is very busy. And between Algarve n' Lisbon, in Alentejo, I found the best surf and conditions in a massive natural park, beach and reef breaks not that crowded, and the water temperature good enough for a simple t.shirt or rush. The town looks pretty cool, in Vila Nova de Melfonts, there is a river passin' through , plenty of hotels, bars and to get in touch with the locals I had contact the Alentejo Surf Camp... Sergio, the owner, just took me to the best spots, very easy going! There is rentals available.

have a good one
