If you give us an e mail, I can give you some tips in return for surf knowledge wherever you are.
I live near the north coast and the outer islands.

Aussie living in Farnborough. I surf regularly out in North Devon in a small village called Croyde. A number of good breaks in town itself and over the hill at Putsborough and Woolacombe. Plenty of waves for those who know what they are doing although it does get crowded. If you were coming down from Scotland I would also recommend surfing Wales - some quality uncrowded waves ou in Pembrokeshire (Freshwater West stands out and you can sleep in car behing the beach). Have surfed all along the Cornish coast, stand outs being Constantine Bay (uncrowded) and also got some nice waves at Sennen Vove and Whitesands Bay. I avoided traps like Newquay and Fistral - crowd etc.
Hope this helps, you have tweaked my curiosity by mentioning off shore islands in Scotland,
