I'm a surfer thats moving to Oban and was wondering if there were any spots on the mainland around there where a W or SW swell will get into (possibly Seil?) Also i am considering buying a speed boat of some sort and wondered if its possible and if so how long it would take to get over to any of the inner islands ie Colonsay, Tiree etc..?? Thanks for any info anyone has

Afraid due to the islands nothing gets into or around Oban. Closest on mainland is down to the mull of kintyre - westport machrahanish etc, around two hour drive.

It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to Craignure on Mull if your boat will cruise around twenty knots on a calm day. I really wouldn't advise trying for Colonsay, Tiree or even Mull unless you know what your doing. Take the ferry, even it turns back from Tiree occasionally - it can get mighty hairy out there at times.

Hope this helps.
