With the right knowledge the surf is pretty consistent November to March and its a real frontier and pretty unique place in the world. It can be flat for a few days and you need knowledge of tides, reefs and the long period north swells that hit the solomons. If you want to go to Malaita or other areas off the beaten path and find waves you will need help and best bet is a guided expedition. Check out www.surfsolomons.com

Check out surfthesolomons website for trips as well as surftheearth. Gizo rips during winter but can be more fickle - when we surfed there with Benji Weatherley, Brett Dorrington and Shaun Harrington it was a solid four foot. O'Neill's Rob Bain and his son have just come back from surfing Malaita and scored big time. There are no crowds - great waves and great people.

Suggest Western or Southern, but any of the north coasts should deliver Nov - Feb. Can recommend January as a best bet from my own experience (...although I've been to Bali for a fortnight in August and only scored 1 good day, so you just never know till you go, huh)
