Just for the record the information on this page regarding J-bay is mostly wrong. There are no nets on the entire cape coast.  Your chances of getting taken by a shark are not any more than anywher else in South Africa (small to non) The best wind is SW which generates swell from the roaring 40's. There are lots of different breaks in j-bay with varying skill levels required. The main break which is world famous is Super Tubes. Localism is not big at all.
For the record I lived most of my life a few km's from j-bay. The currency is very favourable so go and have a ball, and take your 3/4 wetsuit in winter (June July)

Hi Doug,

Cheers for the info.

I'll be over there in and around J-Bay at the end of may beginning of June.

Would you suggest booties? Or is alirght just with a warm suit?

Also any suggestions of good cheap places to stay?

Booties are good for rock hopping but take a bit to get used to surfing with them.
