Solo gal looking 4 laid-back surfing village in South Africa

« on: November 06 2009 14:11:00 »

Hi surfers & surfistas,

I'm a female solo traveller looking for a friendly village in South Africa to safely drop by backpack, relax and surf for a few weeks in feb/march. A lot of the spot descriptions I read about seem to require pro skills. For those of you who have been to Santa Teresa/Malpais/Montezuma in Costa Rica, you understand the kind of vibe I'm looking for!

Happy trails!

Hi

I surfed the Western Cape and Cape South Coast for many years. Unfortunately, I no longer live in SA but I can certainly recommend the Cape South Coast for backpacking, camping etc. There are numerous good surf spots between Cape Town & Port Elizabeth. Best thing is hire a car and travel the south coast, stop & surf at free will. This time of year the water is warm too. Starting at Mossel Bay - The Point, move onto Victoria Bay, near George, Knysna (no surf but good festive arty town), Plettenberg Bay -The Wedge , St Francis point , then Jeffereys Bay (best right hand point break in Africa).
Cape Town - To name a few.....my favorite Kalk Bay Reef, Long Beach, Noordhoek, Llandudno, Glen Bay, Big Bay, 1st Steen-3rd Steen, Melkbos

Enjoy

Simon
