San Sebastian or Santander« on: January 30 2006 22:01:00 »
I'm looking to study abroad this summer. my school has an exchange with a place in Santander. I've surfed for a long time and have done quite alot of surf travel. From everything I've been reading on this site, san sebastian seems like a better place to be based out of. it would mean trying to get into a different university and hoping credits would transfer and all that headache. Is one location that much better than the other as far as consistant waves/quality of life goes. I'd appreciate any local knowledge. Thanks

I was there about 16 years ago a the end of the summer. The whole area has potential. I surfed with a guy named Juan Carlos Ncimiento whos father owned a small hotel in th area. There is a surfing population there in the San Seb area. The bay I surfed was in Pntevedra and had potential. Tide sensitive, a pretty spot. East of there I found lots of beautiful reefs and coves as well as river mouths. I was a little to early in the season. Good Luck.....it is great and so is the Food.

If you've got a place in Santander Uni, stay there....its a great town and theres always something working somewhere nearby. I reckon theres a lot more to chose from around Santander than San Sebastian, but saying that, San sebastian is a cool town!!

Thanks to both of you for the advice. Much appreciated. Looks like I'll be sticking with Santander. If I can finagle some transportation while I'm there I should be all set. thanks again
