surfing in andalucia in early november« on: October 13 2006 13:10:00 »
hi all, this is a great resource that i have just stumbled across.
my girlfriend and i will be in andalucia, spain for the first week of november. i was really hoping to get surfing. we are both beginners, and would need lessons. we are not picky about wave quality, but might spend a couple days at it, so it would be nice to have some variety, yet not be too intimidated.
cadiz jumped out at me as a place to go, but i've been warned that there may not be any surfing there this time of year. we are getting around using public transportation, so that is another reason that cadiz seemed like a good choice.
thanks a lot, i really appreciate it.

I was in Cadiz last November and there was nice swell all week, but that was hurricane season going off on other side of the lake.
If theres none there you could go to Conil and El Palmar, which get more swell.
I love it down there lovely vilages and towns,
I like Cadiz too, its a great place to go, should be nice weather too.
Theres not many places where you can surf, with an ancient city behind you, magic!

I dont think in cadiz,
but there is a place in El Palmar,
i think it was winter waves.com, someone called Andy,
perhaps you could see if you could rent boards there....
The surf in Cadiz, is croweded in the harbour bit but
further south it is less crowded.
I would hire a car if I were you theres loads of stuff to explore further south El Palmar way.

thanks again for posting. i have been in touch w/ andy at winter waves, and it turns out that he will be out of the country for the week that we are there. i've asked him to think if he can refer us anywhere else, but it is sounding a bit like we are sunk. i hadn't considered renting a car to this point, but maybe for a couple day trips out of cadiz i will do so. thanks for the suggstion.

I havent been but portugal is to the north and i am sure ou could rent some boards up there.
In Conil De La Fronterra, once I found a surf shop there that rented out a BIC, for my old flatmate. I should think its still there, it is the smaller shop just when you come to the square with the police station in it. I dont know name.
Cadiz, I loved it and you dont have to surf to enjoy it.
I would reccomend if you are with your gf, rent a double room, in one of the pensions, you can get a good deal.
