First time surfing in Spain...any advice on destinations?« on: April 16 2007 12:04:00 »
Hey...i'm planning a wee jaunt to spain from bonny Scotland, for beginning of May...just wondering if anyone could recommend a good rural spot, with campsite and board hire shop for my girlfriend...finally onvinced her to pick up the sport, and the compromise was that we went somewhere hot! I'm sure many of you have been there!
Is North or South better?
Nice Spanish towns, plenty of wine and good food as well as a good beginners wave?
Any reply would be greatly welcomed...cheers.

If you're looking for fiesta then head for the coast of Cadiz, but then the probability that you won't find any waves is considerable.
In the north you will find world class surf, but then... sun most surely will be missing.
Portugal may be a better option. You have Peniche, one of the most consistent spots in Europe and where you can combine many levels of surf within 15min drive. Or you have Sagres/Carrapateira with guaranteed sun. All have surfcamps, cheap B&B and rentals.
Wine is as good, food will surprise you, and is cheaper!
