Surfing on Tenerife or Gran Canaria in April/May?

« on: February 14 2010 12:02:00 »

I'm thinking about going to Tenerife or Gran Canaria in the end of April to improve my surfing skills. I'm a begginer, I'm able to stand up on the board (whitewater) and that's it.

So now, I would like to now if there is a swell in April or May every day, or is it occasionally? It's better to go on Tenerife or Gran Canaria? Because, I'm planning to go there just for one week.

Thank you

Did you find any advice on what was the better island for a beginner surfer? I'm planning on going to one of these islands, for a week towards the end of April and was hoping to get the better island for surfing.
Anyone else with a suggestion??

I´m from the canaries... to be more accurate from Tenerife.
There will be allways some swell... Don´t worry about that.

The islando to choose I think doesn´t mind. What is important is the place in the island you stay. It´s much better if you are near the beach where you can practice. In Gran Canaria could be in Las Palmas, or in Tenerife could be in Puerto de la Cruz.

Look for Fitenia surf school, in Tenerife. They will take you where the waves are...  I think it´s the better option for beginners.

So, enjoy the waves!!
