From what I've seen and heard, Sri Lanka does not have any really serious breaks. Learners love it! There is volunteer work at any tourist spot, but talk to some other western volunteers before you get in too deep. Some people have had some pretty pointless experiences of doing stupid work for no real benefit that they could see. Also, girls alone have some pretty hairy experiences in Sri Lanka. You are 'fresh meat' and a loose westerner, so travel with other women or westerners and suspect guys that approach you to "be your special friend."
