Hi, OK I'm actually a guy - Sorry about the deceiving Subject, but I thought its going to be the best way to get attention.
I’m from South Africa and traveling to Sri Lanka from the 7th ‘Oct till 16th Nov 06. Just wanna surf good uncrowded waves, relax and have a good time.
Is there any area's anyone can recommend for getting decent uncrowed waves that time of the year? It would also be really cool if anybody knows local people there who I can hook-up with, who can show me around and best places to go and surf. Are there any people that organize surf trips?
Any advice to help me make the best of my time will be appreciated. (Names of places to visit, places to stay , places to surf & people to contact).

I'm biased as I live in Arugam Bay on the South Eaet of Sri Lanka running a hotel. I'm not a surfer but can offer local info & updates. Currently we are suffering from the "Conflict" news in the North but here is safe and alive with surfers. October is often the prefered month for many who know the breaks here as they are less people around that time of year. There are surf trips with "Hawkies" or Sun & Surf, Mambos so no probs.
Any further info just e-mail me. Steve

Now has anyone heard of a spot with its best season being uncrowded, now let think about this, October. people have time off uni for 2 weeks,
October the waves are average and rare. at the very end of the season but if you are there for 2 months hit the end of A-bay and hit the beggining off Hikaduwa season, Mambos your boy for both locations.
Any way, im heading to sri lanka november for the hikaduwa season, may even come october got something for a mate who runs a place down there.
Ram, he owns sooriays Hawkys boys will point to you.

My name is Mark (Australia) and am looking into surfing in Sri Lanka I am meeting up with a friend working there at end of September. I have suggested late August to Sep might be best but his timetable is looking like we may only have end Sept-October. You posting to the S African single girl/guy!!??? suggested that good local knowledge may in fact make up for a lesser swell season.Have you got any further detail on this and or somebody who may??

Hi, jaa, I posted this msg last year. I'm a guy. I stayed in A-bay from 8 Oct for 2 weeks. Had OK waves pretty consistant. NOt to crowded. THen went to other side Midigama. Stayed at Ram's Place. Pretty good hollow right in front of his place and left about 400m walk. Not much people around at all that time of the year. Looked like the most consistant place to stay, except for Hikkiduwa(lank crowded). I would say, go to a-bay and once you start realizing its end of season, move to Midigama. I did it, and had more that enough surf! Manne
