Safe in the South?

« on: August 30 2006 21:08:00 »

Hi there -    My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Srl Lanka for around december 2006, but are a little concerned by all the recent news reports of violence in the country. We plan to go to the south, around the Hikkaduwa, Galle area and were wondering if these areas are still safe for travellers. Would be most grateful if anyone could put our minds at rest! Thanks very much.

I'm waiting for some feed back myself. I've been to Sri Lanka before and had no hassle.  It always felt friendly.  I'm guessing the further south you are the less political grief your gonna get.  Myself and my girlfriend are going slightly further south of Galle at the end of November for a short trip after getting back from the Canaries.  We'll be based in Thaproban & Dickwella.  You'll love Hikkaduwa,  But avoid the crowds and any on shore winds by doing the early surfs.
