There has always been problems but it tends to stay away from the tourists if you keep a level head on you shoulders. im heading to a-bay in a few days.
The onlything i could say would be to avoid traveling from colombo to abay at night time, the military tend to do more stop checks, so traveling during the day just makes it that little bit easier.

Cheers Ben, sounds much like last time i was in Sri Lanka in 2003.... Haven't been to Arugam Bay before, can you recommend any accommodation?? Also i'm wondering how big the waves are this time of year, what size board are you travelling with???
Boards« Reply #3 on: May 28 2007 04:05:00 »
Yeah not much has changed over the years, im taking 3 boards 5.11 6.2 and a 6.6 only taking that incase i head over to maldives.
i have been going for years and i stay at a place called sooriyas reall cheap nice people and its only a 5 min walk to the point.
A-bay can hold up to 8ft but its very rare for it to get like that looking at around 3-5.
So when are you actually heading down there. my email addy is firstname.lastname@example.org

Yeah they do close the roads but you can get around it... plenty of backroads. we had a mental off road trip in a landrover defender with one of the locals from Hiks,
So karsten hows the wave in Abay? are you going to be going back?

Hi Ben, landing in India 13th June, might have a day or two in Bangalore and then head to SL, guess I'll be in A-Bay some time around mid June. What's the best way to travel from Colombo, went on a couple of bus trips in SL years ago -fun and nerve wrecking... and I don't know how I will go with my board... Car or bus ???
Will send you an email when i get there, if I don't bump into you in the lineup.
