Maybe you will find some good beachbreak but actually it's not the best season for this part of Sri Lanka (bad wind and weather)

I have surfed ALL over sri lanka and the waves are GOOD. only on the south half of the country. The people are very cool and poor but accom is cheap and clean and the scenery is A1. You gotta get past south of the capital though. The beaches and water goes from crap and brown to clean ad very thai like (but with reefs! ;-) The best way to travel is by train... dont take their "taxi busses" ($$$$$) Hikkaduwa (100-+km south od columbo) is your springboard, the locals will tell you the rest. Just beware that they WANT your business ;-) Try get round to Aragum bay as well.
Have a good trip if you go and stick where the sun dont shine to the curry muncher comment!!!!!

I've been down to Sri lanka for surf a few times, usually in late March/April to be honest when it's been great. However the locals down there tell me that the season on the south west coast works from October to April and then in summer you need to be round on the east coast in Arugam bay.
Hikkaduwa is a great spot SW of Colombo - a good AFrame, cheap accommodation, good weed, and a couple of surf shops - it's about 3 hours by train from the Fort station in Colombo.
A mate has just come back from there (late October 04) and reckons the waves were a easy 8-10 ft faces.

The wife and I are torn between Costa Rica or SL in March.
I've been lucky to have surfed my whole life, but she is a 3 year vet who is just starting to do top turns, make every drop, and move the board around some. In your experience, with a few trips under the belt, is SL a place to go for an intermediate or do you think the waves will be too mushy/inconsistent?
