Girl by herself in Sri Lanka... safe?

« on: October 19 2010 10:10:00 »

I'm a beginner-intermediate surfer, and I'm considering a 1 month surf trip in Sri Lanka... is this coutry a safe destination for a girl travelling by herself?

P.S. I'm a frequent traveller (South & Central America, Caribbean, Europe) but never been in Asia yet (I know the basic do and don't of a girl travelling by herself!!!).

Yes, no problem, really safe if you stay in the Buddhist part, the South of the country : Hikkaduwa to Mirissa. I met some girls travelling alone like you. Super nice people, don't worry. Just try not to walk the street alone at nite or take tuktuk alone, that's what I have been told.
Only the South East around Arugam Bay, I would not really advise it for a girl alone.

I was traveling a lot the last years through Latin Amerika and Europa and Asia and it was always a great help to meet nice local people and get to know the country with them.
