Hi! I was there in Dec/Jan 2012 and best place to surf and have fun is Hikkaduwa.:) You can check also Arugam bay.
If you decide for Hikkaduwa- go to Reef end surf school  (Ari) and try to get top of the top accomodation for little money (really clean, nice, great breakfasta and location) at Tandem guest house! Me and my boyfriend loved that place:) In the evening for a dinner or a beer go to Top Secret! You will enjoy it:))))
Have fun,
Nina

Hi Josephine,

Arugam Bay is the top surfing spot. Also there are lot of spots in the southern part of Sri Lanka. Like Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna and so on..... There are around 10 plus surfing beaches in Sri Lanka.

You may find the below link and app very useful. They cover the entire sri lanka with GPS and pictures.

Good Luck and Enjoy Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is a tropical country, you can expect the rain anytime of the year in most parts. However, the two major rainy seasons are North-East monsoon (October to January) and South-West monsoon (May to July).

Surfing in Sri Lanka

First of all the place of surfing depend on the calendar month you arrive in Sri Lanka (SL). SL has two monsoon periods namely south-west and north-East. During the monsoon, the area where it prevails is not good for any activities in the ocean. http://www.urlaub-sr-lanka.info/sri-lanka-holiday/2012/02/weather-pattern-and-holiday-in-sri-lanka/

There are lots of short trips like Yala Safari to Watching whales which all are adventurous. If you like to go with Yala safari in Sri Lanka, then you will be able to see some extraordinary experience with the animals as well as migratory birds.

Hey Josephine - I'm planning on heading to A Bay end of July/Aug.. if you'll still be around... I'll be on a solo mission - and ready to tackle any Israelis who I've heard like to cause stress in the surf (no offense to those who have manners) :)
