5 day quick trip: good resort & good waves

« on: September 06 2005 02:09:00 »

My wife and I are thinking of visiting Tahiti for 5 days in October. We`are looking for nice bungalow accomodation near or on the beach, and good waves close or nearby.

Hey there,
I was in Tahiti over the new year. Go to Moorea island (1/2 to 1hr ferry) coz it is WAY cheaper and more relaxed than the main island (all the backpackers go there). You can find surf-oriented bungalows at aplace called Ha'apiti. It is more or less directly in front of Ha'apiti reef pass which can be awesome on it's day, but was crap when I was there! It's a mother of a paddle but I think the bungalow joint has a boat. I paddled it every day but it was HELL, especially when combined with the crap waves. I've seen dozens and dozens of photos of the wave going off it's head tho'.The view back at the island from the line-up is mind-blowing too. One of the most beautiful islands on this planet.

On the internet you can find Ha'apiti camping which is also right there and has cheap (by Tahitian standards!) bungalows and paddle-skis (to save the padlle)and is run by an ex-pat American called Mark who is as cool as they come.
Peace and love and barrels                       Jeff
