Surfing in Kenting and SE coast« on: August 13 2014 21:08:00 »
Our group of seasoned surfers from Hawaii are planning another trip to Bali. However, enroute to Bali this time, we're also planning to visit Kenting, Taiwain via the HST from Taipei to Kaoshiung, then drive rest of the way to Kenting. Unfortunately, were told by our agent that surfboards aren't allowed as baggage on the HST, so if the surf conditions are adequate during the period we're in the South, we'd like to rent good condition boards (short, hybrid and possibly longboards) from reputable local shops that carry performance boards who will allow us to change our board selection (at no extra charge) should we find any of their rentals unsuitable for the conditions during our 5 day stay in the Kenting area.
Anyone have excellent referral for reliable and reasonable board shops in the Kenting area for our group?

Hi! can you share your surf experience in Kenting? We are two surfers from Hawaii heading to Taiwan early october... how was logistics? Did you rent a car (was it chaotic driving)? Are surf spots easily seen and accessible from coastal road? Any particular spots to recommend? We have a shortboard ripper and a longboard cruiser, if you noticed any nearby spots that could accommodate both, I would love to hear it! hope you had a great trip- aloha

I think you will find more waves in Taitung other than Kenting in fall (late Sep to Dec) . Taitung hosts a few surf contests in fall every year. E.g. Taiwan Open . But Kenting is always great for vacation even without much surf. It’s windy in fall.
Having a car at some point (from the airport to the beach) would be easier to access the breaks. You can’t always see the beach from the road but if it’s not too difficult to find a spot with a bit of exploring. It’s fun either way. If you have less than 10 days, I will suggest using a tour service. If you have more than 10 days, it’s kinda fun to explore the island yourself.
