surfing taiwan in October, any tips?« on: June 06 2015 11:06:00 »
Hi everyone! we're two surfers from hawaii coming to visit Taiwan in early October. so far research shows most surf on south or eastern side... any locals willing to give us some pointers? We only have about 5 days. Would it make more sense to rent a car- how long does it take to drive from Taipei to Taitung then to Kenting? Are the surf breaks easily accessible and seen from the coastal road? Or is it better to base ourselves in a particular town? Any good shortboard spots close to rampy longboard spots you'd suggest? (we have a ripper versus a cruiser here). and finally, non-surf highlights near these surf spots (we love all outdoor activities!) Thank you so much in advance!

Depends on your focus, I will suggest you go straight pass Taipei and base yourself in Taitung. I think you will find more waves in Taitung . Taitung hosts a few surf contests in fall every year. E.g. Taiwan Open. Stay at a surf shop and get your advice from locals there.
Please feel free to contact me if you need anything.
Wish you have a great time in Taiwan!
