RE: Surfing Hainan Island, China

I just got back from Surfing Hol to Hainan Island, it was offshore for 7 days straight. The surf started at 3-4ft on day 1, the next day and for the rest of the week it was 4-6ft.
Sheimi Bay, near the town of Xinglong, Wanning area This is a very long left in the low tide long 10-15 maneuvers were possible.and still pretty good in the high tide 10-15 maneuvers were possible.
Anyway the contest finished in 2 days and there was plenty of surf. We also surfed another place called Sun and Moon Bay 22 Ks south of Xinglong. This place had 2 left had breaks, both breaking between 4-6ft, one was a full and very easy wave. The other very sucky for experienced riders, it was a long left 8-10 maneuvers were possible.

I've made contact with a local Chinese surfer, so that I can get regular surf reports.

RE: Surfing Hainan

Hi Graham, that's cool. Did you have a look at Linshui at all? Any dangers like sharks, reef and so on? Can you post any pics? Happy New Year, Jim.

RE: Surfing Hainan

Hi Kiwijim,
I didnt notice any sharks for the week I was there. The reefs weren't too scary, not like Bali. The surf is 1/4 less powerful than Sydney surf, water temp was 24 Celcius in Autumn. I didn't get to surf Linshui area. I will be doing a bigger exploration trip later this year, I'll be surfing more of the island then. I'll keep you posted mate.
PS Check the 720 contest they have photos of the island. There is no such place called Green Point, it's Sheimi Bay point, next to a 18 hole golf course.
