Just got back and had fun wind swell waves at Kata Beach, Board hire on the beach was 100 baht per hour, also great food at Cafe Operah in Kata - 100 baht per meal - loved it...

if you want uncrowded waves, and really good lessons try koh lanta, much nicer place to hang out than phuket, less touristic, and great value accommodation
