Surfing in May (Phuket)

Hi guys,

As I am in Bangkok on business for two month, I would like to go surfing from the 1st up to the 5th of May.
I informed myself a lot over the internet and it seems that Phuket would be the best place to learn surfing in the beginning of May.

I have no experience in surfing (although I used to bodyboard in Japan, Hawaii and South Africa; I am a very good snowboarder) and I would like to learn it. So actually, I think I'd be quite happy with 2-4' high waves.
Can I find this in Phuket? Is there a risk that the water will be just flat?
Can anyone recommend me a teacher or a surfing school?

I'd be very greatful!

(P.S. please don't recommend to go to a other country. I have a limited visa entry and leaving the country is no option for me.)
