yes Thailand is a good place to learn but there will be no waves in November in Phuket , try Ko Samui instead and go to Chaweng Beach ; you can rent a board there
enjoy yr trip !

When are you off to Thailand? Phuket is prob the best place, have been to Samui last 2 yrs on the trot in March and landed a lucky couple of days as it's normally as flat as a Japanese teenager that time of yr.. Chaweng really only works up to end of Jan/Feb.. Also very expensive to hire a board.. So I would def recco phuket..

I want to learn to surf while in Thailand - plan to ehad somewhere south at the end of this week, but I am a bit confused. From what I've read, Phuket won't have any waves at this tyime year and Koh Samui should. As I am just starting where would you suggest I go, as Phuket seems to be the most popular spot.
