Surfing in Thailand - January 2010« on: October 02 2009 05:10:00 »
in January I will visit Thailand for the first time and I wanna go surfin´ ;) Can anybody tell me where are some good spots with waves between 1 - 1,5 meters (beach break). I know that Phuket is the no. one adress for surfers, but I´d like to prefer some spots which are not too crowded. Would be nice if I´ll get a reply. Thank ya!

I've been surfing in Kata yoi beach lately. It was relatively flat the past few weeks...but great for beginners. I was there in June and it was 1.5 - 2.5 meters and pretty gnarly for a beach break. None the less...there are plenty of places to rent (on the south end of the beach) and plenty of people to teach you.
Stay away from Karon beach. It has very strong rips and is very sketchy...unless you're in the know it can be very dangerous.
The taxi should be 600 baht from the airport to Kata and you'll find a hotel for 500 or less.
Good luck...you'll have a blast there.

In January,I would advise you to head for Koh Samui...
Phuket will be very small if any waves at all in January...!!??
As for 1-1.5 meter beach breaks..??..There's no guarantees anywhere...

Really only place is on the East coast, around Samui and Songkla..... see Saltwater Dreaming website for more info
You will have a great time regardless of waves or not!
