Does tonga get much swell in september? How is the wind then? What is the average crowd factor?

Tonga doesnt break very often as it needs a huge swell to wrap aruond the coast. On average you would get 1 day a week of small, short waves with about 5 or 6 guys on each spot. Only decent wave is ETs which only breaks in summer. My advice is go to Somoa or Fiji insted.

Have to agree with jim. Tonga is very inconsistant and small with short rides. Try somewhere else

I went to tonga around sept for 2 weeks and only had 1 day of surf. The waves were very short and shallow. A big waste of money that trip because when there is no waves there insnt anything to do. Even my girlfriend didnt enjoy the trip. :(

Tongan surf is really fickle. Small, short waves, and a lot of the time is flat, even in the "prime" swell window. A lot of money that isnt worth it!

Tonga can get OK waves but as you can tell from the other posts it doesnt break very often. I went for three weeks and got two days of surf about chest high. And that was in prime season. I spoke to an American girl who had been there for 1.5 months and she said it was only big enough to surf about once a week at best, and you have to wait for high tide to before you can go out. Good luck

Went to Tonga August 03, we got a few days of great waves but the swell was big and it was only about 4-5ft at best. Spoke to guys who'd been there weeks and had NOTHIN!
