I'd check out the coastline from SF down to Santa Cruz. There's plenty of surf along that stretch. Just get yourself a nice 4/3, booties and a hood for the winter. Oh yeah, don't forget the shark repellant.

it's about a 3 hour drive to Santa Cruz, but totally worth it when you really need a fix. I never tried SF though. Go Bears~!

This all sounds pretty accurate. I've been a surfering Northern CA for about 4 years and originally from Oceanside CA. The waves are good up here but have yet to find surf buddies in Berkeley. Let me know if any out there wants to meet for a surf. BT.
