Water temp is about 68 degrees, right point breaks are rare, the one I know of is not for everyone and definitely not for longboards. There is a solid left point for longboards, Ditch Plains, you can hang out with all the local stars, Manhattan wannabes, it is one big dysfunctional family. If you do find yourself visiting, respect the locals on the peak and you'll find some good waves.

Early october you will want at least a 3/2, many wear 4/3s. but i've done it in my shorty before if that makes you happy, got a little cold but if you keep paddling you should be good to go :)

way too cold to surf.
mushy waves,
mostly flat,
sharks too that time of year.
california is a much better place for waves.
