apparently there is some surf of long island/ new york area. I was told this by a yankee who lives in that area. But he doesnt surf so im not sure.
Youll freeze your nuts off in boston. Worth taking a 3hour flifht down to miami instead of driving.

There are good breaks in the area, depends on systems moving around the atlantic...it can get epic, but it is very cold...5mm suit with all the fixins to get you out there, summer time is your best option with august-october producing some good sized swells from tropical systems, relatively warm water...Capecod is loaded with beachbreaks, Rhode Island has some very nice points...so if you get out and look around you will find some very nice surf.

you don't need a suit at all in RI over the summer but on the cape a summer suit will do you just fine. I surfed this week in nothing but a rash guard and was fine in RI. the summer season is the worst season in RI and the Cape both with poor waves and loads of people/tourists. but there are lesser known spots that are not crowded, so make a local friend when you arrive. peace

there are about 20 classic points in Rhode Island.

there are about 12 in New Hampshire.
Get to know the locals at Cinnimon Rainbows at Hampton Beach New Hampshire and Waterbrothers in Rhode Island.

when you stop into the shops try not to drool over all the pictures.

learn about low pressure systems that blow south winds from the coast of the carolinas towards nantuckett. or low pressure systems in the central atlantic at "LOLA" at surfline.com
when these storms get going the beaches all around Boston start to light up.  There's even a classic reef just minutes north of Boston in Marblehead Massachusetts.
Its called Deveruex Beach pronounced "DEV-ROW"  the places get huge with the help of a good hurricane off shore and you can surf from August to October with just a spring suit and then switch to a 3/2 for later in the fall.
