Best bet in to beet the crowd with a 10 ft. Grnd swell R.I.« on: August 20 2009 15:08:00 »
I have been surfing for about twenty years and am laid back and respectful, of locals always! I have moved up here to westerly recently and have not really had a chance to surf, but i have been plannig to go this weekend (8\23\09) for a few weeks even before this huge ground swell was forcast to hit us. now my question is where is my best bet to avoid a big crowd i am familiar with most public access beaches only. Giving that it should double to overhead, will it even be crowded?

No crowds but a man in the grey suit has been patrolling the beaches of Massachussets recently, watch out for him. Good luck.

update the surf can be really great in R.I. but once it gets over head high they close the beaches to the public forcing ALL surfers to crowd into rocky points as if that were any safer, oh and despite all the local efforts to keep their "secret" breaks secret,i rocked it there at weekapaug overlook only bad part is the rocks, and the locals dont exactly rip.hahaha Rhode Islanders are a joke

Well, I ain't saying, but, we had Mauai's Ian Walsh blasting tops off Honolua-like waves at....man's!.Then A.I. dropped by a certain body part 'ledge', catching 6-8' perfection like Hanalei after motoring with us out of Sakonnet Harbor. But, the treasure was a sesh' with C. Lopez and Dane at Warren's Point (solid 6' w/ outside 12' capping)- they said it reminded them of Haleiwa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were fortunate to be invited by Brown University staff (who own point house) and road has private security! West of Gansett are shitty beachbreaks and don't bother here unless you're priviledged!
