Surfing in Curaco?« on: December 28 2004 11:12:00 »
Does anybody know if there is surfing on the island of Curaco? I'm headed there on a family trip and hoping there are some waves. Any insight would be cool.

yeah - there is surf Head for playa canoa - north shore - but only in the hurricane winter season do they tend to work. playa canoa usually holds ridable waves where there are waves. it's a small bay on the north shore,... gets a side shore wind most of the time. Fun at 3 ft - can get really good in the hurricane / winter swell season. Usually 50+ m rides when shoulder high - some small tube sections - but usually just steep sections. can get epic when the right swell hits.
soem other spots here too - on klein curacao - north and south of the island - needs strong wind or powerfull swell to work - when it goes off! IT GOES OFF! both wrap around point reefbreaks - shallow, sharp corral - fast - hollow. Not for beginners, and you need good timing to get it to work.
