Surf Caracas - September to November« on: August 24 2006 00:08:00 »
I am a University student who will be living in Caracas September 12 to November 10 to do research and I am hoping to surf weekends and maybe a few days during the week while I am there. I have the lonely planet travel guide but it doesnt say much about surf. What are the best breaks close to Caracas? Is it possible to do day trips to surf a few hours? Also, are there good local shapers and how are costs for surfboards? I could bring my own but would rather buy something down there if it doesnt cost too much. Any and all information on surf spots, hotels, surf shops, is very much appreciated.

Closes good break is Los Caracas. You can make it there and back in a day quite easily, but expect to leave early in the morning and return late afternoon/early evening. There are local shapers in Caracas, and the boards do not run too expensive compared to those in America, so I suggest buying one from there instead of bringing one.

I'm also heading to Caracas but it is at christmas time so all the shapers are going to be booked out. I was trying to get one made before i left so it would be ready upon arrival but there are no shapers left. Are there many good boards available on the shelf? Can you recommend some shops that have a good range?
