Surf in Vietnam - October/November 2009« on: June 14 2009 03:06:00 »
I am planning a 3 weeks-trip in VN in october november ; I would like to get down along the cost and travelling by night with bus.
I would like to know if anyone is planning to go as well, and know about good spot for beginners overthere to share some waves and some beers. I also wanted to know if bus transport is safe during the night as I am 26 years old girl and I am travelling alone...
Many thanks in advance for your feedbacks!!

Good luck with your trip. I havent been there yet, but a friend and i are going to go there next july for surf and travel. Have a look online at Tracks and other surf mags, they may be able to help you out.Take a travel buddy with you. That way you will always have someone looking out for you.

Danang is probably the best place to stay and try to get a wave. Hoa's Place http://www.hoian.co.uk/hoasplace.php is cheap and has a nice break in front of it. He also has boards. It is located a little outside Danang on the road to Hoi An. It is also in the Lonely Planet. Recently some expats in Danang started the Danang Board Riders club so they may be able to offer advice.
If you are starting in Hanoi it is probably safest to stay at the Hanoi Backpackers http://www.hanoibackpackershostel.com/ . From there you can meet people travelling in the same direction and book buses and trains etc. But Vietnam is a pretty safe and easy place to travel through as long as you use common sense.

Hey there, i'm currently in Saigon and planning to go north in the next day or two - any updates on surfable beaches at the moment? Thinking Mui Ne or Nha Trang but not sure what the situation is!
Updates would be much appreciated :)

Well, the wave size is dropping right now in Mui Ne, around 8Oct - 12 Oct we had great quality waves from the north with south wind (up to 2m 12 sec period). Today was flat in kiting bay and 0.5 clean perfect beginner waves.

Im headed to Danang today for surfing over 3 days, friday, sat sun and possibly monday. Forecast says big waves, not sure if the wind is ideal but early morning back home has little wind so im hoping its the same here. Im probably be going to rent a board from Tams Pub or maybe that Gunner guy if i can get on to him early enough. Ill be surfing all day for the next three days, so if ya wanna ride together chop us an email at
or you can try my mobile 0423 019 232 im not sure if it always works, sometimes i have to put a +61423 019 232. Might see ya out there anyway.

This is the forecast for Da Nang: http://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/ChinaBeach/forecasts/latest/six_day , hard for me to say how accurate is it because I live in Mui Ne, the most reliable way may be to check the weather map here: http://www.windfinder.com/forecasts/wind_southeast_asia_akt.htm - always when there is strong windy area between Taiwan and China, da Nang will get some swell. Over the winter it should be quite consistent.
