fun easy waves? safe travel?

« on: January 08 2006 07:01:00 »

hi, i've got a round the world ticket and western samoa is on of the places on it. i've not heard much about it and i know lots of the other pacific islands have world renound, but danm big and gnarly waves! are there any good beachies for intermediate? dont know if i count as that, been surfing 3 years in england, not too many big waves, 6ft tops. want to push my surfing but not on 'no mistakes' type waves. so are there any?
also, how safe is it for girls to travel around by themselves there? i get the impression its fine, but people say i'm too laid back about it, is this true?

I think you might be out of luck in the no mistake wave department... i'd go to Solosolo (the only beach break i know of) , but don't go alone, there's a mean channel out there that has swept out a few tourists... all the other breaks are over coral and a long paddle out ( boat required) as for travelling alone... you should be OK you'll get hit on at the clubs but if you make freinds with a Fafafiene (ie Woman with excess makeup and a big Adams apple)  he/she will protect you like a momma bear does her cubs... or like in any country if a guy gets too rough for your liking pretend for a minute that your into it to let down his gaurd and then kick him in the nuts as hard as you can then find the nearest Fafafiene and tell her/him what happened...

hahaha! cheers for the advice!
shame about the waves though :-( !! maybe i'll just have to resign myself to taking photos! oh well! could be worse things than sitting around on a tropical island watching better surfers on good waves!
