I think its hit and miss. Have heard lots of stories about people getting skunked, but I was there for 10 days and the surf was never less than head high! The waves weren't epic but they were pretty fun!

Savaii is the go in samoa. Forget what ppl say who havn't spent much time there. savaii surf safaries gets the whole island to themselves = no crowds/tourists like opulo. NO CROWDS. Better swells and heavier reefs. youll get good waves in any wind/swell direction. savaii is a beautiful island still oldschool samoa with epic waves. No where is as consistent as indo but you wont be let down in savaii. ive never lucked out with samoa - you just need to go to the right place (above).

Thats really funny because it wasnt me who wrote about surfing in Savaii...I'll keep that to myself. But we are still always flicking through things about Samoa and found your entry, though really unsure who we are talking to..funny hey...when did we meet you? We had such a great time in Samoa, very keen to go back.....
