Maldives - Late April Southern Atolls« on: March 13 2011 03:03:00 »
Just hoping for some feedback on Southern Atoll (Maldives) boat trip in late April? I hear wind picks up from the wrong direction in May? How are the waves down south? Is there a good variety? Is it heavy like Indo? We are approaching the magic 40 years of age and the body is not as nimble anymore (unlike Slats - Freak!), so really keen on FUN waves and good times, not getting hammered.... Any feedback would be cool and really appreciated. Cheers and I hope you are gettin good waves wherever you are! :-)

We had one trip at the beginning of April and one at the beginning of May. The first one was 'all time'. 8+ for 5 days and then 6+ for 2 days then literally dropped to one foot. Every wave worked. We surfed Beacons at 8 foot and it had one of the heaviest inside sections I have surfed. If its big, its an easy take off that gets very fast and heavy down the line. You need a big board. Love charms, Tigers, etc Second trip was a slightly strange swell direction and we sat on one right for 5 days at about 5 foot as it was the only wave really working properly. Wind wasnt a problem at all...we are the same age.
