Bond Uni Vs. Griffith Uni - study abroad

« on: November 27 2005 16:11:00 »

Hi. I am planning on studying abroad in the spring and I have the choice to go to Bond Uni or Griffith Uni. I want to be as close to the beach and surf as possible. Does either uni have beachside living? Also, I want to go to a uni with a good night life. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks :)

Bond uni is closer to the surf spots like snapper, dbah and burleigh although griffith is fairly close to straddie. As for night life, id say griffith and its also close to surfers.

Get a f*****g life!!! I tell you that you will fail if you think uni is parties and the good life, like on TV. It's so wrong!!! It takes time and hard work, and if you disagree  with this notion, you will be one of many who fail and drop out within the first year, get real mate!!!!!!!!

I went to Griffith University for two and a half years and have finally changed to Bond Uni. My experience with the two has been vastly different. Griffith i found to be unorganised, impersonal and the students very closed off. At Bond, the service is great, the uni is beautiful and the students so friendly. At Bond there is a huge organised night life, also has great bar on campus and near by.
As for the surf, my partner is a surfer and we live on the beach. It takes us 4mins to get to Bond, where as Griffith takes as 20mins inland. If you have to get public transport Bond is also a lot easier and a lot shorter ride.
Hope this helps

Griffith and Bond have different types of people at them because Griffith is a public uni with a lot of government supported students while bond is a private uni without many government supported students. International students are at both. You will find good people at both. Getting to know people is probably easier for international students at bond because they offer on campus accommodation. Getting to know people at Griffith depends on your course and personality. Both have organised and non-organised night life. Like one guy said Griffith is closer to surfers (the night club area). Bond is closer to the internationally known big name beaches like kirra, snapper, etc which means they will be crowded when the surf is good. But if the surf is good everywhere will be crowded.

PS. You can drink, surf and study. It isn't easy but I know plenty of people who do all three and pass.
