Surfing Western Oz

The folks will be moving down to Perth in the next couple of weeks from Wales and I am looking to come and visit around December/January.

I have only been surfing for about a year and a half. Where should i be looking to find a suitable break. Should I be worried about those damn gnarly sharks!!

RE: Surfing Western Oz

yeh basically if you havent been surfing that long or you are still learning, stay in perth for that time of the year and surf scarborough, cause the good swells dont hit perth till round june. but south and north of perth will be to big for you, and yes there are gnarly sharks everywhere

If you've got a car you may want to head down around Secret Harbour (about 45 minutes south of Perth) it's usually less busy than Scarbs or Trigg. And don't feed the sharks.

RE: Surfing Western Oz

Dont hang around perth dude, its full of wannabe psuedo surf dicks. Triggs, scarborough and everywhere else in the metro area is crowded and small, tiny small. Show some welsh courage and take off down south or up north where you will find some real juice. There are waves for begginners around these areas too. Try around Margaret river area

hi to all surfers,,at the moment the surf at margarets is  going off,,,the biggest it has ever been,, it is bloody huge,, so only extremely skilled surfers  are going out  it is like a mountain of water at the moment,, ,an up north it gets big as well like cyclops,, big,, stay in smaller waves if your not too experienced ,,an dont want to drown ,,,and watch out for those sharks,, they are  also big as well and could be anywhere,,lol

Get ya hand off it,(or pull ya finger out if you are female Bonnie) Do you really think that this week was the biggest its ever been here? And as for comparing up north to cyclops.....ha. try going DOWN to cyclops and finding out for yourself!! The best way to learn to surf is around real waves, so cut the crap. The margarets area has beginners waves too. And Its good to be able to test your abilty if you want. And finally dont listen to the bullshit about sharks mate, you have got more chance of dying in an aircraft disaster flying from Wales to Australia.

Good to see some one is giving a level headed opinion. Thinking about waves in the southwest sure makes me homesick....not to many waves round this part of China. If you're learning, go the south. Less crowded, better waves - more waves, bigger choice as to type of waves. And don't worry about the Noah's. You'd be lucky if you got eaten...an your mates would be talking about it down at the pub for years...

RE: Surfing Western Oz

the way i go through life is i look at it this way. i am in the Noahs home and if they didnt want me there, fairenough, cause i sure as hell wouldnt want some Noahs walking round my home. i have looked at it ever since i got charged by a 3 bronzeys and then circled for about 20 minutes. give respect and u shall recieve, cause when i went over there i was thinking, what are the odds of seeing a shark today,

Bigger than u think

RE: Surfing Western Oz

I'd rather take my chances with the sharks than the brown waters of Wales. I have surfed both Wales and West Oz. I did not get eaten in Oz but i did catch a dose of the squats and pukes in Wales! My advice is to surf everywhere - then you'll know. You'll probably taste too much like a leek to get eaten anyway. - have fun mate.
