Vancouver Island surf
« on: June 12 2006 17:06:00 »Hi,
I am in Vancouver at the moment, and was thinking of heading to vancouver Island to try for some waves. My main concern I guess is whether I would freeze.... I have a 4/3 wetsuit but its getting kinda old. I was a little cold while surfing in it in Peru, and I only have reef boots.
Also, anyone know about the waves over the next couple of days?
What do you reckon? anyone please...
Thanks,
J

Im sure BC has some great spots but when people talk about surfing in Canada its always the east coast. Weve been in most surfing mags and have way more waves than the west coast. Sorry D but its all about the bluenose son!!

You are a moron. BC surf is miles better.
On the east coast not only are the waves smaller they also have a considerably shorter period (a period of 11+ seconds is rare primarily because the waves are typically wind swell.)
The pacific on the other hand gets storms that travel hundreds of miles generating true ground swell.
Sure the east coast is a great place to be but it will never be as consistent and large as the west (Unless you are somehow able to reverse the spin of the earth and create trade winds that blow from east to west in the Northern hemisphere)

« Reply #7 on: June 14 2006 21:06:00 »yes i know the trade winds blow the wrong direvtion in the summer but the real surfers surf here in the winter when wave rider shows 6.0 meter average wave height with a 20 second peak period and 5 knots offshore wind, that my friend is bliss! Summer just brings wind slop, tourists, and kooks. NO ONE gets a solid ground swell 365 days a year. We get hurricanes, we have more than just beach breaks unlike vancouver island. Almost every picture I see of Vancouver Island coast looks like Peggys Cove here in Nova Scotia. Google it and youll see what I mean. You guys have the mountains, we have better coastline, thats just the way it is. Sorry, Im out PEACE!!!
