Surfer from England - looking for info on Surf in Canada« on: August 20 2006 14:08:00 »
Hi, Visited toronto twice last year and loved the time I spent there. Im from the UK, a place called Cornwall (near Newquay), and have spent most of my life surfing (sadly less in recent years though).
It's only a pipedream, but Im tempted to perhaps emigrate to Canada in a few years time, or at least spending a year or two in another country, having spent all my life in the UK.
Anyway, I would sorely miss my love of the ocean and woods etc, and was wandering on whether anyone could recommend any areas that might suit me?
P.S. If you're interested in the UK surf scene then check out my website on A1Surf.com

Hey mate. i live in Prince Edward County ontario, about 1.5-2 hours east of toronto. its probably one of the nicest places to live in ontario. we have a WICKED beach. i think one of the best in Canada. as far as surf goes tho...idk....APPARENTLY...on a really windy day you can get decent swell but i dont know...lots of windsurfers tho. and wakeboarders. but check Prince Edward County out. real nice. our neww neighbors are acutally right out of london england and they love it. its been featured on the travel channel and such. anyways, if your interested in moving to canada...check it out for sure at least.

SJ! You can't go! Your surf reports are too valuable!

Don't worry 'squiggle' - I can't ever imagine those stopping!
Just getting fed-up, or perhaps 'bored' would be an apt word, with the way life/things are going at the moment. My friends/family are here which is great, but i've got that itch to go do something more substantial rather than settle down...
Used to surf everyday, barely go once a month now - but just last year when i was in sri lanka - i surfed every day bar two. Wouldnt mind moving somewhere for a new challenge in a year or so, but preferably somewhere close to good waves.

Depends where you want to live in Canada. You could go to BC. rainy and moderate most of the year but that and nova scotia are the best surf spots.
I fyou like TO tho, you could live really anywhere in S. ont and still be within driving distance of Lake O, erie and huron. most ontario peeps live in and around TO. it helps to be on a lake because "swells" don't last long and you have to be ready to go at the drop of a hat. Any further north of TO and you'll have cold, snowy winters. TOs not bad. Not much snow most of the time (just muck, slush, and rain), and no damn frigid temps like further north. mostly.

I live in Ontario right now but am moving so I can surf. The best surf spot in Canada is on Vancouver Island, BC. The beach is called Long Beach. Its a nice beach, 20 km long and waves go up to 14 feet. It is quite cold though so a dry suit is needed all year round. Its about 10 minutes from two little towns, of about 1600 people. The two places are Tofino and Ucluelet. They would be nothing like TO being a huge city but if its surfing that you want thats the best place Canada.

Yeah...Vancouver island is the best...I lived in Southern Ontario.
People there talk about The big lakes because they wanna stay there.
That's cool....but yes the best place in Canada is the West Coast of Vancouver Island...Nova Scotia?...better than the Lakes , but not as good as the west coast...nothing between you and Japan baby...

Southern Vanouver Island! tons point breaks/reef breaks if you can find them!! cold water but not too crowded, I personally like it better than the beach breaks of Tofino.
