Surfing Ontario

« on: April 10 2005 19:04:00 »

I am a beginner and am living in Toronto. I would like to hhok up with some people in the same boat as me to go check out some breaks around the city and outer limits.

Also, if you are experienced, I would be willing to pay for lessons to learn more.

Hi guys,
I just put up info about my favourite spot in the Toronto area, Ben Machree park/Rhododenron Gardens.  In small surf there's a nice left at the gardens, and as it get up to 4+ feet it sets up as much as 300 past the end of the point at Ben Machree Park. You can ride it all the way along the shoal and the point for a total of 1200 or so metres. even on a small day you can ride several hundred metres, I just uploaded a picture of clean 1.5 ft waves lasting 500 m with nice weather.

Are you seriously surfing in Lake Ontario? i have heard of people in Lake Huron and once in Lake Ontario during the Left over Huracain last year.. I have been surfing here in Ventura and i am just being able to turn into the wave.. I would love to know of anyplaces you find for when i come home for a week or so.

you won't likely find much this time of year, but there's some this weekend. lake huron and erie will be bigger though. Try burlington beach or... take mississauga rd to Lakeshore and go west to the Rhododendron gardens in Port Credit. You could get a 1OO yard ride on friday am.

Okay, it looks like there's surf near T-dot tonight, friday the 13th!! Easterlies are wipping back down the lake after the NW's so there's some sloshing happening.

On sunday, point Abino should be do-able as well

I live on Whistler Bc but in the summers I come home and live on Oro station Ontario which is between Barrie and Orillia when we have storms on the lake we get a huge on shore wind that bring in 1-2 metre waves with a ridable 200 ft into shore. It isn't winter surfing in Tofino or anything but it is fun. I left my board outwest but want to buy a used board for here if anybody has one to sell email me. And Wasaga beach is good to surf to but you have to paddle about 5 minutes out to catch anything worthwhile beyond the sand bars. I would love to meet up with anybody and surf. I go to school at Georgian College in Barrie and have Fridays off.

Im from St. Catharine's, I have surfer in California and Florida near coco beach for 4 years, im living in maine this summer but my dad brought boards home for the summer and plans to go tanker surfing (where u catch the waves off freighters and super tankers) its really the only reliable way to get waves in lake ont. Look for them out somewhere near Port Dalhousie.
I'd love to hear how many people are really trying to surf Lake Ontario... i thought we were the only ones!

Could anyone give me some info on surf spots on the Bruce Penninsula. It seems the swell will hit the north-west section.

Should be 8-10 feet waves in 48 hours. It wont last long a couple of hours.
