are there cheap surfboards in costa rica

« on: February 10 2005 03:02:00 »

Hi
I will travel to costa rica (July)
there I wanna buy a surfboard.
How cheap are the surfboards in costa rica (central pacific coast). Is it possible to buy a board for 100-200$?
It doesn`t matter whether it is an used Board in good condition or a new Board.
Thank you

Hey  man, I thought about the same thing and I'll tell you if you want to save money bring your board sell it when you leave. boards can be found at 100/200, but they will be ready for the wall in a bar by that time. fiberglass is very expensive new boards cost more here than in the states and every body here surfs every day/ leading to broken boards everywhere/ leading to a shortage of boaqrds.

I agree that the boards are not cheap, although there is no shortage of boards in places like Jaco. There were hundreds of boards for sale there in every shape and size. You could probably score a good enough deal there if you spend some time shopping around. There are probably at least seven or eight surf shops and each one is loaded with tons of new and used boards. Good luck. I don't think travelling with a board is worth the headache.

i am thinking of bringing a couple of boards with me to the Jaco area. Will I be able to sell them in Jaco for a good price? Or are they over-saturated with boards?

Hey guys,
There are a few Surf shops in SJ called Mango and Quique, they are located in San Pedro, I must say it is not that cheap but you might find what you are looking for

Go see PIKO & Alejandro when you get to Jaco , they have one of the best shops just right outside town on the main highway. You cant miss it , it's just after the bridge if your coming from Hermosa on the left , they have a crazy skull breaker cement half pipe out front . PIKO shapes some pretty nice boards prices are basically the same as in the states, I'm pretty sure the shop is called PIKO surf shop .
