kenny, jan is topsy turvy for waves. though i havent been there in jan i lived with friends there who had been in jaco for a yaer. i saw the pics of the dry months and generaly its flat compared to the wet season. dont let that get to you though. jaco is big by costa standards and there is plenty to do if its flat. i definitly recomend fishing if you get the chance a great month for offshore. dont get me wrong though there are still waves in jan its all luck though.

with the way this winter is going you should have good luck. i dont recomend renting a car in san jose though unless you are arriving in the morning. the drive there is not easy at night alot of twisty turns through switchbacks in the hills and it is legal to drink in the car while somone is driving, not safe for the eveing. it is very easy to get a bus to jaco boards are no problem they pick you up at the airport and there are plenty going to and from its like 3 bucks.

you can easily rent a car or 4x4 in jaco same price usually. or hire a cab from san jose not that expensive. while in jaco you will probably have better luck at playa hermosa a few hotels on the break i recomend the backyard great atmosphere owned by a few expats. jaco is like 5min or less drive and estorrios (i know i butcherd that) is 20km south good break. pure vida

DO NOT TAKE THE BUS UNLESS YOU HAVE 8 HRS TO KILL. It will take you forever mate. It is a 1 1/2 hr drive in a rental as it is. So take a cab or rent a car. Seriously, you will be exhausted by the time you get there if you take the public bus.
